New Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons Video Game Revealed

A new D&D video has been officially unveiled at this year’s annual Game Awards show. Entitled Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons, the game is an action-adventure title, with players taking on the role of a Warlock spellcaster who uses their eldritch magic to solve challenges and take down monsters.

Developed by Invoke Studios (which is currently owned by Wizards of the Coast and who previously developed the Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance game), Warlock aims to deliver something very different from Baldur’s Gate 3, focusing less on a realistic simulation of D&D and more on a single character and class.

So just what can fans expect when Warlock eldritch blasts its way onto consoles? Below, we break out everything we know so far.

What is Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons?

Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons is an upcoming open-world, third-person action-adventure game, with players taking on the role of Kaatri, a female Warlock voiced by Tricia Helfer (of Battlestar Galactica fame), who serves an otherwordly Patron which, if the trailer is any indication, is likely the Raven Queen. The game will feature a variety of iconic locations, monsters and spells from D&D lore, although it’s not clear if it will take place in the Forgotten Realms or another D&D setting.

Invoke describes the game as being built around “immersive, expressive magic.” This means that players will be able to creatively mix and match magical abilities for combat, exploration and puzzle-solving. The developers cite influences like Deus Ex, Watch Dogs and Far Cry, suggesting an immersive world that offers multiple approaches to challenges.

Notably, Invoke has confirmed that the game will not be leaning heavily into the D&D 5e rules. Instead, it will largely be on a story-driven action experience, using D&D lore as a foundation without replicating any tabletop mechanics.

When is Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons Coming Out?

Invoke Studios has confirmed that the game will launch sometime in 2027. A full gameplay reveal is planned for Summer 2026, which will showcase more of the game’s key features. We’ll update this page with specific dates once we know more.

What platforms Will Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons be on?

Currently Invoke has not confirmed which platforms Warlock will be on, although given that it’s a AAA title from a major video game studio, it will likely be available for the PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It may also possibly be available for the Switch 2 (although this has yet to be announced).

What other D&D Video Games are in the works?

Warlock isn’t the only video game to feature the Dungeons & Dragons license, and in fact a number of other projects are in various stages of development:

  • Untitled Hasbro Game: Wizards of the Coast has also indicated that an in-house studio at Hasbro is currently developing a currently unnamed D&D game, although little information has been revealed about what it will consist of.
  • Untitled D&D surival sim: In development from Gameloft Montreal, the studio best known for the popular Disney Dreamlight Valley, this new D&D title will be an action-focused survival-life sim set in the Forgotten Realms.
  • Untitled Saber Interactive game: The developers of the popular Space Marine 2 video game are also working on a new Hasbro title that may be D&D related.
  • Untitled Giant Skull Game: The new game studio (which was founded in 2023 by several video game veterans) is working on a single-player action adventure title using the Dungeons & Dragons license.
  • Baldur’s Gate 4: Wizards of the Coast has confirmed that a BG4 is in the works (although a studio and release date has not yet been announced).

Final Thoughts

Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons represents a major next step into the video game space for Wizards of the Coast following the success of Baldur’s Gate 3. The announcement also comes hot on the heels of the recently released D&D Battlemarked VR game. Whether or not Warlock will live up to the hype, however, remains to be seen.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on this story in the days ahead and will update this page with more information as it’s made available. In the meantime, below is also the official teaser trailer that was showcase at the 2025 Game Awards.
